1995 offered plenty for many actors, including Nicolas Cage and Susan Saradon.
According to oscars.org, the year 1995 was the 68th Academy Awards. The best actor of that year was Nicolas Cage, who starred in the movie Leaving Las Vegas. The best supporting actor of 1995 was voted Kevin Spacey, from the movie The Usual Suspects. Susan Saradon was voted best actress for her commanding role in the film Dead Man Walking. Mira Sorvino was voted for best supporting actress of the year after her role in the movie Mighty Aphrodite.
According to wikipedia.org, Nicolas Cage won his award in the Oscars for his role as Ben Sanderson, a suicidal alcoholic in the film Leaving Las Vegas. Leaving Las Vegas was a romantic drama, written and directed by Mike Figgis, based on a novel by John O’Brien. Cage received the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor-Motion Picture Drama, as well as the Academy Award for Best Actor for his commanding role in the film. Leaving Las Vegas also received nominations for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Director.
The film Dead Man Walking starred Best Actress of the Year 1995, Susan Saradon. Dead Man Walking told the story of Sister Helen Prejean, who settled into an interesting relationship with Matthew Poncelet (played by Sean Penn), who was a death row prisoner in Louisiana. This film was directed by Tim Robbins, who played as Andy Dufresne in the 1994 film The Shawshank Redemption.
According to wikipedia.org, in the film The Usual Suspects, Kevin Spacey played as Roger “Verbal” Kint, one of two survivors on a ship that was set ablaze by a faceless man named Keyser. The plot unrolls as an FBI agent and a United States Customs Service special agent arrive on the scene at different times to investigate. Upon finding Kint and Arkosh Kovash, both wanted criminals, they are immediately pinpointed as suspects. The Usual Suspects was made on a $6 million budget. Christopher McQuarrie who wrote The Usual Suspects won an Academy Award for the screenplay, while Spacey won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
According to wikipedia.org, Mighty Aphrodite was a 1995 romantic comedy written and directed by Woody Allen. Allen co-stared in this film with Mira Sorvino as Sportswriter Lenny Weinrib while Sorvino played the role of Max’s biological mother, a prostitute and part-time porn star. Sorvino won Best Supporting Actress of 1995 for this role as Linda Ash.
However, despite how epic the movies listed above were, the best motion picture of 1995 was Braveheart (according to oscars.org). Mel Gibson was director and star of Braveheart. In this movie, Gibson depicts William Wallace, who was a 13th-century Scottish Warrior. Wallace led the Scotts during the First War of Scottish Independence against the King of England, Edward I. Hundreds of Scotsmen joined Wallace in his rage over England’s overpowering invasion of Scotland, plotting to return Scotland to it’s state of independence.
