The Golden Compass is the first novel of a trilogy, His Dark Materials. The trilogy was written from the years 1995 to 2000.The young-adult fantasy novel was first published in July 1995. The novel is known as The Northern Lights in areas outside of North America.

There are 385,445 ratings of the book and 8,542 reviews available online.According to Wikipedia, Philip Pullman’s first novel of the trilogy, The Golden Compass won the Carnegie Medal in Literature from the Library Association in 1995. 

The novel was transformed to an award-winning, fantasy adventure film in late 2007 by New Line Cinema. The film was directed by Chris Weitz. A video game based on the film was released during December 2007 in North America. The video game was developed by Shiny Entertainment and was published by Sega. The Golden Compass is a fictional novel based on a young girl named Lyra Belacqua, who is travelling to the far north, in search for her missing friend, Roger Parslow, and her imprisoned father, Lord Asriel
